#35 - Power tools in Landscaping and Power tools for Learning in the Classroom.

Phew! Boy am I tired. I just spent all of today working on my front lawn. There were bushes that I have been wanting to uproot and get rid of because I’m not a man of lawn work. Less is more in my book. Anyways, I took some to uproot the plants, and my next door neighbor Omar came over to talk to me. He only speaks Spanish, so It was mostly me catching keywords and me talking back to him in broken Spanish. (Laughs out loud).

One thing from the experience though taught me this: Omar was a professional Lawn Mower/Landscaper and I learned this about him from speaking with him. He said that he does this for a living and I’m lucky he helped me otherwise I probably wouldn’t have finished or finished at all.

The tools that I had for this job were: some sears, a bush cutter, and a shovel. Now, I didn’t do enough research for this nor did I ask around about an easier way to do this. But eventually, Omar just took out his Chainsaw and he also recommended that I go out and buy a garden Pick for the job at Walmart. So I went out and bought the Garden Pick Axe and came back. And then we went to town. There were ten more bushes we had to do and Omar helped me knock them all out! The chainsaw was the hero of the day though because that took out all of the bushes immediately. Omar also had Echo Brand gear which was top notch and very costly compared to most equipment. Another brand that is really good is Steele he said. So far though here was the comparison of equipment between us:

Me: Beginner Level Landscaper: Sears, Battery Blower, Mini Rake, Gloves, Garden Pick Axe, Bush Cutter, and Shovel.

Omar: Professional Landscaper: Industrial Blower, Chainsaw, Big Rake, and Spade.

Do you see the difference? Omar had years upon years of experience, not only that, but he had the best tools. And that’s what I’m trying to get at. If you’re just starting a venture, be sure to first sit down and think:

-Is this the best tool for the job?

-Will this tool speed up the process and make it easier?

And in regards to just chainsawing all the bushing it was. A quick look on Google/Amazon will pull up results for more tools in which all probably are better than average tools. My point is that this is no different than any other area of life.

The Landscaping outside your home is no different than the landscape of the classroom.

What tools are you going to need to be successful in your study journey’s? What tools are essential to the task? What Learning Strategies are considered power tools in the domain of knowledge that you are wanting to dive deep in?

Anyways, I hope you take some time to think about all these questions and stay tuned! I’m going to work on my book/course this week that tries to address all these thing and will keep you updated on my progress/when it will be done.

Have a wonderful Sunday as always,

-Calvin
